PROGRAM INFO... Have you ever thought of a graveyard as a place of adventure, learning and discovery? Have you ever wondered about the meaning of some of the graveyard art on old tombstones? Have you ever read names and dates and wondered what kind of life the people led? If you enjoy unique experiences and want to find out more about "images of the past etched in stone" don't miss the chance to tour the Oldest English Graveyard in Canada by candlelight. Since 1992, these lively tours have taken place on a regular schedule in Annapolis Royal at Fort Anne. Created in 1991 by internationally-acclaimed heritage interpreter Alan Melanson, they have consistently been one of the most popular events in Nova Scotia, recommended by major media throughout the world. They have been honoured by two of Canada's Prime Ministers and have a 5-Star Rating on Tripadvisor. Thousands of people have taken part in this fun-filled tour, and many visitors actually plan their entire trip to the province around them. ANNAPOLIS ROYAL LIGHTHOUSE UPDATE --
WE WON! RESTORATION IS COMPLETE.

The Annapolis Royal Lighthouse, owned and operated by The Historical Association of Annapolis Royal, was built in 1889 and needed significant structural work in order to preserve it. The Historical Association entered it in the THIS LIGHTHOUSE MATTERS CONTEST in 2015 in hopes of winning the funding needed to repair it. We were in competition with 26 other lighthouses. Our Candlelight Graveyard Tour participants from throughout the world helped us by voting for the Annapolis Royal Lighthouse.

With 27,048 votes WE WON 1ST PLACE AND $40,000 towards our preservation efforts. The actual cost exceeded $50,000, and the work was done in 2016. THANK YOU to everyone who voted to help save this important Canadian treasure! Click on the link below the video to see the video about the historic Annapolis Royal Lighthouse that we entered in the contest and on the "Please Help Us" poster below it that we used in competition to see our contest entry and learn more about lighthouses throughout Nova Scotia.
